TROY FIRE STATION

tfdstation.jpg (11612 bytes)Underneath its hip-style roof is a spacious 5,740 square feet of floor space located on the corner of West Harper Street and College Street.  Divided into three (3) sections, 3,920 square feet is dedicated to truck bays, 1,120 square feet is dedicated to living quarters and 700 square feet is dedicated to a "bomb shelter" designed basement.

Truck Bays:  Its three (3) electrically operated fourteen (14) feet wide by fourteen (14) feet high overhead doors provide access to seventy (70) feet deep truck bays.  Each bay is equipped with floor drains and a two (2) inch water line is provided so that the truck's water tanks can be refilled inside during cold winter weather.  The entire truck bay area is heated and air-conditioned to provide a controlled environment for the equipment.

Living Quarters:  A fully functional living quarters was designed to accommodate Troy's future growth.  Included in this design is a Chief's Office, firemen's lounge, full service kitchen, restroom/shower facilities and a bedroom.  The bedroom currently is used as an operations/training room, but can be transformed into a bedroom in the event that a full-time fire department is required.

Basement: The basement is constructed underneath the station's south-west corner.  Its walls, floor and ceiling are constructed with twelve (12) inch thick steel-reinforced concrete.  It is normally used as a storage area.  Due to its massive construction it is an ideal tornado shelter and has been used for that purpose on several occasions.

This facility officially became the home of the Troy Fire Department on March 28, 1996.   It is the third fire station that has been our home.  All three have been located on Troy's beautiful town square.
