Engine 2
is a 1972 American LaFrance 1,000 GPM mid-ship pumper with a 500 gallon steel booster
tank mounted on a C/60 Chevrolet truck chassis powered by a Chevrolet 427 cubic inch
gasoline engine and a 5-speed Spicer manual transmission. Built in Elmira, New York,
it was delivered to our department in October, 1972 at a cost of $32,000.00. It is
equipped with 2,000' of 2-1/2" hose, 400' of 1-1/2" hose, twin 200'
1" electric booster reels, an array of Akron nozzles including an Akron
1,000 GPM portable deck gun, four (4) MSA air packs, two (2) Survivair air packs and six
(6) spare cylinders. Communications are provided via a 110 watt Motorola radio
system which provides communication ability for the pump operator as well as the
driver. One of the most important features of Engine 2's communication
system is a Motorola Paging Encoder that can be used as an emergency dispatch unit
to activate our firemen's pagers in the event that our main repeater system fails.Odometer reading as of: March 10, 1999 11,368 miles March 10, 2000 11,765 miles Engine 2 was manufactured by: ![]() |
Here's a peak at what the inside of Engine
2's 500 gallon water tank looks like. This picture was taken while we had the top
off from the tank doing some maintenance to it. Notice its construction! It is
construsted with baffles in both directions to ensure that the fire truck's load of water
remains stable and does not move the truck around while it is being driven down the road.
Engine 2's tank is a steel tank and must be cleaned and repainted on the inside
every few years. Most of today's fire trucks utilize poly tanks which do not require
any maintenance. |
