The J.S Moffatt building, built in 1890, was one of Troy's most noted landmark buildings.   This historic building was located on the corner of Harper and Main street at the 4-way stop.  During that time, the entire east side of the town square was referred to as " The Moffatt Block."  This building was the original home of the J.S. Moffatt Company.  During the 1930's it was used as a school after Troy High School burned.   Later, it was home of the Salant factory.  After the factory left Troy, the building sit idle for many years until it came to life once more as Joyner's Furniture Store.   Then came another idle period until it was remodeled into an auto parts store in the 1970's.  It remained a parts store until it was destroyed by fire.

A section of the building's threshold was salvaged and later used to build a beautiful red-oak credenza  for the Fire Chief's office.
