| Fact: | No -- Obion County does not provide this basic service. If you live outside an incorporated city or town & do not purchase an annual subscription service, you do not legally have any Fire Protection Service. |
| Myth: | All the cities and towns in Obion County offer Rural Fire Protection Services through a subscription type contract. |
| Fact: | No -- Only three (3) Fire Departments in Obion County offer subscription service contracts. They are Union City, South Fulton & Kenton. |
| Myth: | Obion County does not have a Fire Department. |
| Fact: | Actually they do -- The Obion County Commission passed a resolution January 19, 1987 establishing the Obion County Fire Department for the purpose of providing Rural Fire Protection Services to all of Obion County. |
| Myth: | There is an Obion County Fire Department that provides Rural Fire Protection Services for the entire county. |
| Fact: | Not Really -- The Obion County Commission established a County Fire Department, but they have never funded it nor have they taken any steps to plan, organize nor implement any type of Fire Protection Services for Rural Obion County... The resolution was rescinded 01/20/09-- 22 years after it was passed. |
| Myth: | Since Obion County does not actually have a Fire Department, it would be too expensive to start one. |
| Fact: | No -- There are eight (8) municipal fire departments in Obion County that can be consolidated into an Obion County Fire Department & can provide superior Rural Fire Protection Service for all of Obion County. |

| Fact: | The eight (8) Fire Departments are interested in a County-Wide consolidation to provide Fire Protection Services and have developed a plan for establishing Fire Protection Services for all of Obion County. |
